Not quite into Internet banking?

Four reasons why netbooks may be your answer to keeping track

It used to just take a ballpoint pen, an envelope of stamps, and an accordion-style file folder.

With company pension plans being common, there were not a lot of investments to manage.

You could keep pretty good track of your finances at your dining room table, in half an hour, once a month.

But now your bills arrive over the internet, your banking is electronic, you are making your own buy and sell decisions on the stock market, and you’re setting aside an hour a month for FinanceSpa, and ten minutes a week, for our updates.

And the kids monopolize the family computer with homework and facebook and Steam,.

It’s probably time for you to have your own computer.

"Personal" means no one else can read your files.

When you use your own little netbook computer, your online transactions do not go past the snooping eyes of your company's IT department. Encryption keeps your information secret, even  from WiFi in a coffee shop.

Using your office notebook for your personal financial management

Most businesses are not at all clear about how, when, and for what purposes employees are allowed to use company-owned computers.

Without knowing the rules, it is best to err on the side of caution.

Your employer can read all the details of your personal finances, and can seize your computer, and its records, leaving you without months, or years, of knowledge.

But just what are employers entitled to do?

Canadian law is pretty clear. And the laws that govern telephone use and the laws that govern computers are vastly different.

Computers are infrastructure owned by employers. As such, companies generally are allowed to monitor what is kept on computers they own.

Expect your e-mail to be read, legally, by supervisors, HR department staff, and investigators hired by the company to look into various problems.

Currency Exchange Calculator The value of the Canadian dollar, when compared to the currencies of other countries, changes throughout the day. Whether you are thinking about taking a trip, want to make an internet purchase from another country, or are looking to invest in the Canadian dollar or foreign currencies, it's handy to know just how much another country's money will cost you.
